Acceptance In Healing Is The Key

Jun 02, 2026

I had a young woman who was a traveling nurse who came in with sciatica, she was getting shooting pains down the back side of her leg. She also had sharp pains in her low back. She was loosing power in her legs and when she went to the gym she just didn’t have the same energy that she used to. She wasn’t sure what had done it. She was in pain and needed relief.

As we started working together I noticed her apologizing more than she needed to, she was playing nice for me, and I contacted her gently, asking if she may have needed to play nice in childhood with her family. She also rolled her ankles to the outside edge when she was expressing something uncomfortable. Ankle rolling can indicate childhood trauma.

We built trust and she began expressing what was hard for her with her family, how she felt she had to take care of her mom and brother, her mother was emotionally unstable and unavailable and she became the caregiver and emotional laborer for her family.

She also had a feeling of not feeling safe in this area where she felt the sensations of sciatica, and in her low back, and in the presence work she noticed this area was connected to these feelings.

As we unraveled the layers of fascia more was revealed, she found memories surfacing of experiences she didn’t know she was storing. As she expressed them, while centered in present awareness, she was able to fully feel each feeling, and to release the emotional and physical trauma that her tissue was holding.

These releases directly effected her pain patterns. As she faced into what was there, she was able to deeply listen to her body and her body got the attention and reverent acknowledgment, the time and space to be held and to release.

She came in for a series and her sciatica pain was completely gone and she was able to return to her activities and to life in a new way. She gained tools to be able to navigate and stay centered in present awareness.

I feel so grateful to support and guide my clients to find more freedom in their movements, ease in their bodies and peace win their mind and heart with MFR the John Barnes Method.

I treat clients everyday who receive and are relieved with Myofascial Release. I see incredible results and treat clients with severe conditions so they can get relief from pain, inflammation and restricted range of motion. I have been doing fascial work for 20 years, I have been practicing the healing arts since 1999 and I am no longer astonished by the results.

I see people get relief everyday with MFR.

Facia is all of your tissue from bone to blood, just a different density. There is not a part of you that is not fascia, it is your medium, your structure, and support system.

Most often we are going, we are doing, we are purposeful. We are taking shape and what helps us to be efficient, effective, to have strength, energy, vibrancy, pliability, elasticity is the health of our fascia.

I wrote about gratitude and positive belief and intent. I want to circle back to this, I want a neon sign that is hanging on my wall that says believe.

I see dramatic differences when people believe in their own healing or they don’t. The biggest obstacles to healing are the mental constructs that have been built that doubt healing.

If you haven’t heard of Joe Dispenza, look him up. He is the most sought out speaker globally right now. He has an incredible healing journey.

He broke 6 vertebrae in his spine with bone fragments in the spinal cord in a biking accident he was struck by an oncoming car going 55 MPH. He had four opinions and all the surgeons recommend a Herrington rod surgery for the neurological symptoms he was experiencing.

He opted out of the surgery. He used a method that he now teaches and speaks about all over the world.

And simply stated it is about developing the power and control of the mind to stay focused and attentive upon the outcome that we want to see happen, instead of living from a place of navigating the sensate body that remembers pain and the mind that is most always based in fear and separation and comes up with the worst case scenario.

It is important to honor the body as it feels and the mind for it’s intellect and power in imagination, critical thinking logic and problem solving.

It’s also essential to use the mind and it’s creative imagination and keep it focused in a positive way and when we notice ourselves telling stories, creating separation, ego, relentless thoughts to learn to direct the thought and navigate out of the outdated ideas, thoughts beliefs and programming.

This programming can limit our relationships, and can keep us spinning, distracting us from our harmony and the truth of who we really are. Because our body, mind and heart are all linked they all effect each other. So we do our best to make the best choices for the best life.

Pain in the body can be stressful, it can make us afraid of the possible outcomes. This can be like a snowball effect.

It can further exacerbate the pain in the body because even if our fear is understandable and justified, we don’t want to live in this place because it weakens the body and further damages our ability to create a brighter moment, now and in the future.

If we are going to use our imaginations, it’s best to dream up the most positive outcomes. In order to do so we have to change our mind.

I had a client the other day as we are deepening our connection, look at me twice when I made a comment about something (I swore, which is rare, and she liked it, cause she does too sometimes, somehow I had a sense, sometimes it makes me instantly more comfortable with someone, when they swear, I don’t know why.) and she said wait, your not perfect?

She said you always seem like you’ve got it all together, and I chuckled.

I wanted to tell her the thousands of ways in which I was human, that I have failed, that I get frustrated with the systems in our country, that sometimes I feel helpless, that I judge myself more strongly than I do others because I have a perfectionist streak, that has held me down, that I can be hard and question myself. That I have had struggles, failures, heart ache and trauma.

I hold a space for my clients that is for them. I center and set aside my stuff as best I can in service of my people.

I do my best to strive and be available and to put my problems on the periphery, so that I can concentrate and hold loving healing energy for others.

And these principles that I teach are the best tools I have to be at peace in the midst of being human.

Which is why I share with you.

As humans we have so much to navigate, there is birth, life and death happening within and all around us. To be present with ourselves in the center of the world, and to understand ourselves seems to be the most effective way to be available for both.

As a healer, I do my best to put forward my best self, and to hold a space that offers attention to you as you heal.

Each opportunity I have I am doing my best to deeply listen, to track and relate with my clients so I can bring any tool I have to the table in support of my clients reaching their best self.

And, I have been and continue to be devoted to doing my inner personal work so that I can offer this to others.

I need to keep coming back to myself, to look inside with authentic compassionate love. As I accept myself and all the parts of me, as I let go of judgements about myself and others, as I rest into what I need, to take care of me, to love the parts of myself that need it, to hold the inner child and my shadow, to tend to it, to feel, to cry, to acknowledge my restrictions, to give myself time and space to melt, and unwind. To get regular bodywork. To not push myself too hard.

I promise myself that I will take good care of me, so I can take good care of you.

It takes a lot to be a bodyworker, when I was younger things used to hurt and I had to, and continue to tweak the variables in my body, in order to sustain my health and vitality.

To do the healing that I do, I need to be open to receiving energy from source.

Resourcing, as I turn my attention to it, can be gathered from many sources. I may be a vessel for energy to come through, there is nourishment, sunlight, water, touch, tone, song, music, rest, meditation, nature time, there is also Qi energy available in our bodies, and this chi can be nourished and fed by breath, awareness in everyday movements and intentional movement practices (to name a few.)

In Qi Kong Thai Chi, NIA we learn to cultivate and observe chi.

We learn that our bodies alignment and the physics of movement shape our fascia and we can alter and change this when we shift our body mechanics.

So the level of acuity with centered presence and awareness allows us to keep coming back to center.

My NIA teacher Carlos Rosas used to say, and I have heard other masters as well say this. We all loose center, it’s just that the master finds it again in the next moment. Because he is always looking for it. And so is she.

She can move and kick, flip and gain momentum by calling upon and gathering this energy and by remaining focused on finding center, and as we practice focus grows.

We receive energy by recognizing it, by expanding to the understanding that metaphysically we are not separate. We are energy.

We can gather energy from the moon, the sun and the stars, we can gaze at the horizon and receive it from the earth we root down into. There is energy all around, if we are receptive to it.

And I am grateful for the energy that I am gifted.
