Life with Purpose

Most of the principles that I have chosen to live by are the most simple, and simultaneously the most profound. Take for instance the golden rule, do unto others as you would have done to yourself. I remember receiving this lesson in church as a child, and I thought it was so complex when I started to really get into the details of it.
I remember feeling the direction of the energy outward to others and a reflective quality as I looked into myself “as you would” coming inward. And then there is the question, what would I have done to myself. How well I treat myself has a lot to do with how well I treat others. This lesson is along for the ride, here to stay, at the core. How well can we treat each other, and ourselves?
Some of the core principles I like to bring into my attention consistently are concepts that over usage and time become energy allies, pillars of truth. I can continue to gain understanding and lean on these concepts during times I need to gather strength, in moments of test or challenge.
Values that reflect integrity withstand the test of time. We gain balance, we find alignment, we are guided to create from these truths, setting the form, these pillars allow for a safe container to be set, the grid work, the ley lines. Laying the lines, the rhythm, the objective, inspires the freedom, the organic playful creativity that thrives in the safety of the form.
As we are multidimensional multifaceted beings, it’s always fun to play with more and more positive tension, because we get stronger as we push ourselves. And if we push ourselves too hard, we can move past our boundaries and have less integrity.
There are cycles to life. There are times when we have the need to rest, to heal, to gather energy. There are times when we are in surplus and feel an initiation, a calling to engage, to activate and build energy. These cycles of rest and growth are natural.
It’s important to acknowledge the usefulness of each segment of the journey, to be ok in the changes and transitions. These cycles can be seen as in-breaths and out-breaths, one in which we are inflated as we are receiving oxygen, we are inhaling a new energy and filled with purpose from the breath of life, we inspire. Inspire is another word for inhale.
And then we breathe to the height of what we can receive, and we get to a transition into the let go. Where we then deflate, we let go, we release, we expire and exhaust. At this point we are eliminating waste, we are making room, we are clearing. Expiration is the little death. It is acknowledging the death cycle, it is honoring that we are not any longer.
Pillars of truth, like the Four Agreements, are where we lean into the energy allies that have been adopted from The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
- Be Impeccable With Your Word
- Don’t Take Anything Personally
- Don’t Make Assumptions
- Always Do Your Best
Each one of these we could apply to our lives and grow from, continuously for the rest of our lives. What is required is the presence of ourselves, to show up to be the best version of ourselves.
Be Here Now. Ram Dass coined the phrase and you know this one is a real archaic oldie and a goodie. This is it, this is the time, it is always right now.
We have access to the most potent energy in the universe: now. Often times when we talk about now, immediately other times play in, like the past and the future. Often in our society we are led into a future of expanded limitless possibility, or we hinge on elements of memories or stories from the past.
We can get taken from the moment if we focus on the past or future, unless we center our awareness while noticing the mind thinking. Even just noticing can center us back into the awareness that notices.
Why is it so important to be here now? This is where all the change and transformation can occur. This is where we get to access our senses, where we can create the worlds, where the richness of life, the tenderness, the feelings of connection to ourselves and to others, including personal and shared intimacy. All of this takes place in the moment, where life really becomes.
Each one of us has grown from a child, from a baby who was helpless and depended upon our caregiver(s) to provide for all of those needs. We felt the need and did our best to communicate with them. These needs helped us to form our communication styles/strategies.
We were either met or unmet and we developed strategies to get those needs met. During our development we did the best we could to get these needs from the inside met from the outside. And this is where we may have been met with our circumstances.
Our caregivers either gave us the care we needed, or they didn’t have the capacity.
This is where we developed core personality traits still with us today. Some coping methods, conditioning, core beliefs, strategies, in order to deal with these biological functions and needs within us being supported, accepted and loved: positive experiences or feedback.
In these positive experiences we were able to develop trust and a sense of support. Or, our needs and biological functions were dismissed, ignored, invalidated, or worse we received what we perceived as negative feedback for having needs.
Here we may have developed strategies based upon a limited perspective, and did the best we could to get what we needed.
Some of these strategies that live on for us today are positive, and we may want to keep them because they benefit us. Other strategies and ways we were conditioned can lead us into habits that have negative consequences for ourselves and our loved ones and our greater community.
It is here we gently meet the resistance, the places in our experience where there are rifts and ruts. Where we need to mend a break in the connection, and a possible place in the body, in the connective tissue.
Oftentimes there is a block in the energy, which is why when we find a place that the energy isn’t flowing in our lives.
Do you notice when this has happened? Do you understand how to mend the fractures?
In order to see and go where you want to go sometimes there is value in noticing what has brought you out of alignment, out of your values or integrity and to consider the source.
Considering that your core beliefs were built within the first 7 years of your life, it may be time for a fresh look.
With Presence Centered Awareness Therapy we have access to transform limiting beliefs.
