Did you know that direct sunlight can transfer specific DNA of simple organisms held in a glass of water to another glass of water? There was an experiment done and without any other stimulus, 2 glasses were placed side by side with the same water in the glass, one of them had simple organisms. When sunlight was directed through both glasses, the plain water of the first glass transferred the genetic codes to the water that was just water; it now contained the genetic duplicate of the original DNA codes. Wow, water and sunlight huh. Magnificent. When we are born our bodies are soft and sensitive, our tissue is porous, we are like sponges as children, our fascia is fluid, bouncy even. We have less density in mass and bone structure. Our muscles, ligaments and tendons have not developed to their full potential, we are just little maps of what our life’s development will be. We depend upon how much we get watered and sunned, fed with nourishment and love.
I am a mother, and when my babies were born, I called upon a woman I had heard about within the community of Portland, Oregon. Carol Gray, she is a pioneer in Cranial Sacral Therapy for Infants and Mothers during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. She is a midwife and very knowledgeable, kind of like an encyclopedia. She came shortly after the birth of my first daughter, she treated both of my daughters after birth. I had a pretty wonderful birth, at home in a tub with warm water, with my partner. Although everyone was alive and well there were a few complications. One of which was that it was like her jaw was wired shut. I couldn’t get it open. So I was having to pump breastmilk and then feed her by wriggling my pinky into the corner of her mouth and prying it open then using an eye dropper, I would squeeze small amounts of milk into her mouth. Carol came to my home and treated both myself and my newborn infant. Within one session the baby was able to open and close her mouth without pain. I was so influenced by Carol Gray’s work. I studied with Carol and took her courses for Cranial Sacral Therapy for Infants and Mothers and I treated my children every evening.
What’s interesting about babies is that they are so new they don’t have as much that they are holding onto, so within minutes we can reshape the head, we can even out the level of the eyes, we can help with latching, with colic, difficulty sleeping, torticollis, plagiocephaly, digestive issues, ear infections, jaundice. A baby has a crown molding that takes place when the child is squozen through the birth canal. The cranial bones -plates fold over each other during this process and then unfold. Hopefully during this process the child’s cranial plates and sutures unfold and go back to the anatomically correct position. Many times these plates do not go to their optimal position, and can cause dysfunction in a child’s development. The brain and spinal cord can develop more optimally when they have room and space to grow. If there has been a cesarean birth, often times the child’s head can get stuck in the pelvis and the doctor has to manually pull and dislodge the baby to remove the head from the mother’s pelvis, the baby can get lodged or stuck and there is force needed to remove the babies head. This force can put a lot of stress and tension on the cervical spine of the infant. It is so important for babies and young children to be treated, so they can be free of the restrictions from birth and infant trauma. These issues can be effectively treated with pediatric MFR, I use all of these techniques in my current MFR practice with infants and mothers.
Mothers do so much to support and encourage their children and it happens when they first begin with conception. Mothers are the most wonderful gift and we would not be here without them. From conception mothers learn how to offer their bodies in service to grow an entire human being from scratch. Women are sacred and deserve high honors for all the work you have done as a mother. I want to take some time to acknowledge Mothers. Mothers have hormones that course through their bodies and the intelligence of their bodies that distributes nutrients to the baby and to herself. During pregnancy, birth and postpartum women have more demands on their physical body, there is more blood pumping and then there is milk to produce. Women also have relaxin happening, which is a hormone that laxes the ligaments that connect muscle to bone at the joints. Relaxin is released in preparation for childbirth. Some women have too much relaxin and then their muscles have to over compensate for the looseness. So the muscles strain to hold on and stabilize the joint, and it’s not their job so they don’t do it as efficiently. I felt it was crucial for the development of my children and myself to have all my body receiving skilled healing touch, to organize and regulate my nervous system, and to help relax the stiff muscles that were holding on for dear life.
For women who have had cesarean births and have scars, these scars can lead to adhesions that can spread and affect your digestive tract, colon and reproductive health. Many times digestive, and reproductive issues can come from trauma and adhesions that have not been treated. Women who have had babies, pain from menstruation, back problems, pelvic floor instability, problems with incontinence, hysterectomy, can benefit from Myofascial Release. The belly and gut can store old emotions that haven’t been processed, these emotional and mental trauma can isolate and become frozen in time. This can also happen from sexual abuse. It is important to get help and support for your body to heal as it informs our emotional mental state. The information that our body passes and distributes among itself is like a community, and the health of our community depends upon the strength of our chain. We are only as great as our weakest link.
We are made of connective tissues, each of them linking along. We want our fascial health to be strong, resilient and yet soft and supple, our body does that through an intricate elaborate variety of patterns that usually involve sacs, open ended and closed. All permeable by the interstitium, we hope. Each part is organized and separated out in a variety of sacs, to contain and create the unique individual form and function of that specific body part. From our organs to our eyes we are sacs filled with fluid and tissue. Fascia is the space holder and the sacs. Fascia, our body’s living water and liquids, the blood to the bone. Fascia does best when it is organized. Organize your tissues with Myofascial Release.
When we become mothers many times in meeting the needs of others we don’t pay enough attention to our own needs. We want to be good mothers and it requires sacrifice. It’s important to feed yourself so that your children see you, lead by example and nourish yourself. After our children are out of the nest we can feel how much of a life of service we have led. And to nourish the soul is to nourish the body, you must feed yourself nourishment, even if the children have been long gone, there is still tending to do as a woman for your body to receive your gratitude and to release any blockages or restrictions that are held in the tissues.
